Family photo albums have evolved quite a bit over the last few decades. You used to take your stack of developed 4×6’s and slide them in pages of clear plastic pockets. Then you’d then put in an album that looked kinda like a fancy 3-ring binder. If you wanted to display your photos in a particular order, you might spend quite a while reorganizing your pockets, pulling photos in and out as you tried to find the right order. Ultimately the rings of the album would get bent or out of alignment, making turning the pages SO ANNOYING. And many times these photo albums get relegated to the bottom shelf or closet somewhere. Their pretty unattractive covers pushed them out of view and somewhat forgotten.
Thankfully the invention of digital photography and print-on-demand technology has given rise to massive improvements in creating and preserving our photo memories. We can create beautiful page layouts of our photos and have them printed in a cute little book before we know it. But just because the process is so much quicker doesn’t mean we should dump all our photos on to the first online printer and hope for the best.
I wanted to take some time to talk about the albums I offer, which are beautiful, high-end albums that combine traditional photo printing for the best quality image, with a modern photo book presentation. ‘Cause really, you WANT to show off these precious memories, right?
Unlike most albums that you might order online that are press printed, these albums use created with professional-grade photography paper. The pages are then sealed to be protected from UV rays and fingerprints. That’s real archival quality there. Meaning it can last up to 100 YEARS in a normal home display, and even more in storage. Your baby will be passing along their newborn album to their grandkids without any quality loss whatsoever.
They are board book style, so they’re very sturdy pages that are resistant to bending. There’s also an upgrade option for even thicker pages. You can even choose between round and square corners. Very importantly, the albums lay flat, without a break between the pages. This means you can create a spread across both pages, with one seamless image.
For the covers, most people choose to use one of their photos for the image. What better way to grab attention than your child or family on the front of a professionally constructed book? There’s also an option to use a linen cover (color choices available) with blind embossing for a very crisp, clean look.
The albums are 10″ x 10″ and come as 10 or 20-spread books. There are also options to add more spreads in sets of 5. Below are a few page spreads from a recent client’s album for her newborn. With some other full shots from their set.
In addition to albums, I also specialize in custom wall portraits. If you have any questions about the other products I offer with my photography services, please call or email me. My phone number is 214-864-5787 or you can email me at [email protected].
