Today, I present the smiliest baby I’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing.

Capturing smiles in a newborn photo shoot is tricky and rare. Newborns basically want to sleep. They wake for feedings, to look adorable, cry, coo, and poop. That’s about it.

But every once in a while, you meet one like this baby boy. Now, some naysayers will tell you it’s just gas making a baby smile. But as a mother of two and a professional baby photographer, I say otherwise. I think some babies are born with a smile on their lips. They want to share it with the world. In between naps (and pooping), they grace us with those precious smiles.

This newborn photo shoot was also special because this family had a hard time bringing this little guy into the world. Mom was on bedrest for the entire second half of her pregnancy in the hospital, a time she says she barely remembers because it felt like a dream. That’s probably good, because bedrest is rarely fun.

Photographing these “hard-to-get-here” infants is an honor for me. The families are trusting that I will take extra good care of their babies and capture their features for treasured family photos. I think we did that with this newborn photo shoot. So enjoy this smiley and cute baby.
