I’ve been working in Dallas newborn photography for over 20 years and no two sessions are ever the same. Every baby has her own personality and every family their own style. Part of the pleasure in my line of work is talking to parents and discerning the best way to capture images of their sweet baby and create heirloom, luxury photos that will be treasured for years — and generations — to come.
Children refresh our lives and we rejoice in their arrival. That’s one reason why I encourage mom and dad to be a part of the photo session, even if it’s just for a few shots. I’ve never photographed parents where that joy wasn’t apparent and it’s beautiful to record that for posterity. Adults also help show just how tiny that newborn is by contrast — we all forget as our children get older and bigger that they once were such wee things. Oftentimes, mom or dad’s hand is bigger than the baby’s head! Finally, I like to include mom and dad because it captures a moment in time: age, style, look, and feel. Never again will everybody be the same and this is an almost photojournalistic part of my job that I love.
The photos I’m sharing below are of an adorable newborn girl and her parents. She had the cutest little pout and the family brought a stuffed pig for a few of the photos. So adorable. We chose a variety of backgrounds — all comfy or fluffy blankets for her lounging enjoyment — as well as several wardrobe changes. Her clothes of choice are soft, knitted outfits, monogrammed diaper cover, comfortable baby blankets, or au naturel. All excellent choices.
