I can’t get over the adorable faces this sleeping beauty is making in this recent photo set. Maybe she’s just already naturally expressive, or maybe my timing was really in sync that day. Whatever the reason, the results are great. This newborn set is full of the cutest napping baby expressions you’ll ever see.
In actuality, she was in and out of sleep during the session, as many babies are. Between posing and reposing, different clothing changes, diaper changes, and a handful of other disturbances… it’s hard for a baby to not get COMPLETELY ANNOYED with the entire process.
Regardless, some parents have jokingly called me the Baby Whisperer. I have a handful of little tricks up my sleeve to help coax babies back to sleep, but mostly my not-so-secret trick is to just be totally calm. ZEN CALM. I think babies can sense things like that. It’s easy for a baby to be a little restless and cranky when her new parents are (understandably) stressed and overtired. So I just remain calm and relaxed at all times around the baby. No matter what he or she throws at me. And sometimes that is poo. I can’t tell you how many times a baby has pooped right into my hand. I just laugh, clean it off, and move on. The parents are typically MORTIFIED but I reassure them that it happens a lot and they relax again. I have had several parents fall asleep on my couch during these shoots – which I encourage! Sleeping parents and sleeping babies make for a successful shoot!
Baby whisperer – maybe, but I am definitely adept at remaining calm while others around me are quite literally screaming and pooping themselves.
