Hazel wasn’t sure what to expect when she booked her Dallas maternity photographer session. Her body had never looked like this before, and after everything she’d been through to get pregnant, she had conflicting feelings about the changes.
But she knew one thing for certain: she wanted to document her journey.
Two Rounds of IVF, Two Viable Embryos, One Miracle Baby
“We did struggle to get pregnant, I underwent two rounds of IVF with only one viable embryo in each round,” Hazel shared. “To say I’m grateful for this baby would be an understatement.”
The road to pregnancy wasn’t easy. Her body had been through hell: the injections, the bruising, the exhaustion, the emotional rollercoaster of not knowing if it would work. And as someone who used to compete in fitness competitions, Hazel knew what it meant to push her body to its limits. But IVF was a completely different kind of exhaustion.
“Watching my body change has been the most unique and magical experience I’ve had. The most bruised, stretched, poked, prodded (IVF), exhausted yet I’ve never felt prouder of my body. The lengths the female body can go to bring life into this world, it’s magical.”
After fighting so hard to get here, Hazel wanted maternity photos that honored this chapter of her life. “This is my first pregnancy, it was very difficult to get here. After two rounds of IVF I wanted to document this part of my life that will forever change me.”
Exploring Multiple Looks with a Dallas Maternity Photographer
Hazel came to the session with an open mind and a simple goal. “I wasn’t sure. My body has never looked like this, so I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be. But I went in with an open mind and the only goal was to show off what I’m baking.”
We decided to get creative. Instead of sticking to one aesthetic, we explored multiple looks that captured different sides of who she is:
-
Western elegance with a cowboy hat that celebrated her Texas roots
-
High-fashion glamour with jewels and gloves for an editorial vibe
-
Sophisticated poses that felt elegant and timeless
-
Casual, natural moments where she could just be herself
Each outfit change revealed something new. Hazel, the confident woman who could rock a cowboy hat. The glamorous side that loved the drama of jewels. The comfortable, authentic energy that came through in simpler moments.
For a first-time mom who wasn’t sure what style she wanted, trying multiple looks took all the pressure off. She didn’t have to commit to one vibe and hope it was right. She got to explore and have fun with the process.
Her Husband Was Part of the Journey Too
One of the most meaningful parts of Hazel’s session was having her husband there.
“It felt great to have my husband there with me. He has always been my greatest supporter, so to have him there with me felt natural. He also very much enjoyed being a part of it and you made it so easy for him.”
After everything they’d been through together to get to this pregnancy, the hope, the disappointment, the waiting, and finally the joy, having him in these photos felt right. This baby was theirs. A result of their partnership and perseverance.
Most partners are nervous about maternity photos at first, but when the environment feels relaxed and natural, those nerves disappear quickly. The photos we captured of them together honored not just the pregnancy, but the journey they’d taken to get there.
Why IVF Mamas Deserve to Celebrate Their Bodies
For women who’ve undergone fertility treatments, maternity photography carries extra meaning. Your body has been through so much to make this pregnancy possible. The procedures, the medications, the physical and emotional toll all deserve to be honored.
Hazel’s maternity session was about celebrating a body that had fought hard to grow her baby. Documenting a miracle that took two rounds and two embryos to achieve. Feeling powerful in a body that had been tested in ways she never imagined.
