Baby, it’s cold outside! But this baby boy photography will warm your heart.

This family came to me for newborn photography for their infant son, a sweet boy with a bad case of reflux. He had sleeping issues that affected the shoot; it was hard for him to doze off. But luckily I know how to deal with that because my daughter had the same issues. I spent a lot of time helping her when she was a newborn and I remember how uncomfortable it is for the baby. Poor little guy.

Most newborn photo shoots are of a sleeping baby. They pretty much sleep, wake to eat, poop, and go back to sleep. But when a baby has reflux, milk and stomach acid is coming up into their esophagus and causing them pain. Things that help include keeping them upright after a feeding, swaddling, lots of gentle rocking, and patience. We had to wait for him to get comfortable and be ready to doze off. It did finally happen, as you can see from the photos below.

Reflux or not, you can tell how enamored his parents are of him, and that love shines through in the photos of the family together, those of daddy and son, and the last ones of mommy and baby. I really encourage mom and dad to be a part of their baby photography. The birth of a new child is not just about the baby—it changes the whole family. Parents often tell me they treasure the photos that included them because it captured such a special time. Sometimes, they protest and say they’re too sleep deprived or don’t like being photographed, but I’ve never had a client say they regretted those pictures. Many become family treasures.

If you’re expecting a baby this winter or spring, now is the time to book with Miette Photography. I’m accepting reservations into February and March.
