Last week, I talked about a few different ways to sync up your maternity and newborn photos. Well, there’s one more trick to creating a coordinating look between photo sessions: recreating the same poses.
For example, one popular pose involves the mother lying on her back. That way the curve of her belly is prominently displayed. In the newborn session, this pose is recreated with the baby sleeping on Mom’s tummy. We used her bump-to-be, shown in the set below.
When done well, this really is a beautiful way of reminding people – including your future self that comes back to these images again and again – that your little one once lived inside you, and that the female body is an amazing, life-giving machine. Now you see a baby bump, now you see a WHOLE LITTLE PERSON.
While the look below is beautiful in the nude, it certainly doesn’t have to be. You don’t have to stick with shots featuring your baby on your belly, either. Recreating the same scene from session to session, by sitting on a bench the same way, or posing in front of a window the same way, can achieve the same look, even if you’re holding your infant in your arms, rather than holding your belly. Your photographer will be able to guide you in your positioning while making sure your stance doesn’t look awkward or unnatural.
