Being a Dallas family photographer, I get to meet families of all types and sizes. Sometimes, they are small. Other times, like today, they are big and beautiful.
Today’s blog features four big sisters welcoming their new baby brother with a family photography session combined with a newborn photo session. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing four of these children before, for a newborn/family photo session a few years ago. They have grown into lovely young ladies. Each has a vastly different personality from the others. This really shows in one of the shots below where each girl is “doing her own thing” while happily posing with baby brother. Funny stuff.
Something to keep in mind: The more kids in a photo shoot, the more planning it takes. Parents can help make a family photography session successful by talking to the older kids beforehand about what will happen. This means letting them know there will be times when they’re in front of the camera. But there will also a lot of time when they’re not. Bringing along games, toys, or iPads can be a lifesaver. It also is a great help if both parents (and maybe even a grandparent) can be at the photo shoot. This way, if someone gets bored, grumpy, or tired, one parent can intervene and the second can still be attuned to the photo shoot.
Of course, the star of this family photography session was the baby boy — this was his first photo feature. With four older sister oohhing and aahhing over him, he never sat in a carrier or wanted for anything. He had an easygoing, calm personality that made his newborn photo session a breeze. I captured lots of sweet shots of him sleeping and generally looking adorable. What a love bug.
