All too often, parents want professional pictures of their little ones through the years, but neglect to include themselves in the photos. This makes me sad, because family photography is one of my favorite things. I love capturing the interaction and relationships between different family members. These precious moments in time are fleeting, and people love looking back at the memories they created.
Believe it or not, this family photography shoot took place just a couple of months ago. The weather in Dallas is so bizarre—we have gone from t-shirts to heavy winter coats in one week. The sun was shining and this small family was all smiles as they posed on a Calatrava-designed bridge near downtown Dallas. This is a place I’ve brought families before because it is a colorful, different location for outdoor photos.
I was thrilled with how interactive and playful mom and dad were with their daughter. I feel like I captured the playful spirit of this family in the group photos, and in the one-on-one pictures, too. Lots of tenderness and love.
The little girl was a delight to work with again. This was actually the final session from a baby plan the family purchased before she was born. They could not make the one-year session due to unforeseen circumstances. So we decided to make it a two-year-session and do it somewhere fun and colorful.
The typical baby plan, by the way, includes newborn photos, six-month photos, and one-year photos. I encourage mom and dad to be a part of all three of these sessions. This creates lasting memories that they are sure to treasure for years to come.
