When I work with my clients and we are planning a family photo session, they often ask, should we be indoors or out?

Studios certainly offer a lot of flexibility and options, and I’m one of few DFW family photographers with a dedicated and private studio for clients. But sometimes, you just gotta get outside. This is especially true when nature is offering something spectacular.

Today, I’m sharing some Dallas outdoor family photography. This trio hadn’t had any family photography done in ages. They wanted to get some done before their boy got any bigger. Children grow up so fast!

We headed to a local park, which was in bloom and totally beautiful. The trees were also changing colors, which added dimension and vibrant color to the shots. Some of the photos are in front of azalea bushes covered in flowers in shades of pink. Others are by the water’s edge. The water was quite popular with the couple’s toddler son. He wanted to play with a duck friend he made that day.

I use quite a lot of black and white photography when we’re in studio. But for an outdoor photography session like this, color is in order. Color catches the eye. Bright colors that surround a photo’s subject have a way of capturing interest and drawing a viewer into the image. Color photos can also convey mood. The greens of nature and bright pops of color from the flowers create a happy, relaxed feel in these photographs.
