Deep Ellum photography offers a fun and vibrant alternative for Dallas family photography. This time of year, lots of people want to get outdoors to capture memories as the temperatures cool down. Many choose a local park as a beautiful spot, and that’s a great choice. A few opt for something a little different and more urban, like the family I’m featuring today.

Deep Ellum photography captures the energy of the city and the unique vibe of the area, a historically significant neighborhood in downtown Dallas. It’s known for outdoor murals and cool architecture, which both provide a fantastic backdrop for memorable family photos. I chose two prominent, one of blackbirds and another one that colorfully depicts an old fashioned Texas water tower.

This family was a joy to photograph with a shy, sweet little boy who quickly warmed up to the experience of being in front of a camera. He was happy to spend time outdoors with mom and dad and shared big smiles. We worked our way from one mural to the next and got some posed shots, as well as more active, spontaneous pics, too. I like creating this mix of images for my clients so they have a range of looks and feelings from which to choose.

Lots of parents are religious about taking newborn and toddler photos, but somehow forget to keep booking sessions as their kids get older. I’m so glad this family chose to take professional photos of their kindergarten-aged boy. Childhood is fleeting and these kinds of pictures capture treasured memories.
