A fun alternative to studio photography is getting the kids outside and into the city. Today, I’m sharing pictures of downtown Dallas photography with two super cute kids.

Part of my process for every new client is talking to them and getting an idea of what kind of photos they want to create. This DFW family, an urban made perfect sense. Their kids are older and the whole family loves the Dallas Arts District, where we ended up going for our downtown Dallas. Interesting fact, this is the largest contiguous urban arts district in the nation. And with 69 walkable acres of visual arts, performing arts, and community groups with plenty of beautiful outdoor areas.

I find the architecture of the Dallas Arts District especially striking. All of the photos below were taken at or near the Winspear Opera House, a modern reinterpretation of the traditional horseshoe-shaped opera house. The entrance offers a 60-foot-tall glass façade, with the louvered Sky Canopy providing shade over three acres of Sammons Park next door. The reflecting pool is shallow and visitors can walk and splash around in it. Which makes for striking photos. With the backdrop of downtown skyscrapers, there’s so much visual appeal here.

Another great setting for downtown Dallas photography is Deep Ellum. You can see a recent photoshoot I did in my post Urban Family Photos Shot in Deep Ellum. This is another spot to consider if you’re looking for an urban-style shoot for your kids and family.
