One of my favorite session types is the lifestyle family session. This is where I incorporate the client’s home and life into their portrait session. Instead of just family photos outside or posed in a studio, these photo sessions focus on the lifestyle of the family and the home they have created together. Sometimes I hang out with a family in the morning and follow them as they go about their day. Making and eating breakfast, playing with the kids or family dog, relaxing on the couch, etc. Sometimes I simply photograph the children interacting in their home the way they normally do. I really enjoy these photography sessions because it gives me a chance to really get to know the family and to tell a story about their lives – all in photos.
In this session, the family was preparing to move across the country and wanted to get some portraits of their daughter in their old home before they left. I photographed in several rooms of the house to show the family’s style. I think this tells a pretty good story of a very happy family.
