I recently had the pleasure of meeting a darling family for their newborn and family photography session. They have a preschool-aged son and were welcoming a brand new girl to the family. They did something I encourage—turned their newborn photo session into a love fest for the whole group. They now have photos of everyone loving on the newest family member, and smaller groupings, too. These will be a treasure to them for years, especially as the kids get older.
We shot pictures both indoors and outside to get a variety of looks and I love the results. There’s a glowing happiness to this family photography and big brother was possibly the best behaved older sibling ever. This boy smiled like a champ. He never got tired or cranky and was so adorable, handsome, and polite. He was willing to do whatever I needed to create some of the pictures you see below, and it shows. The photos of him with his sister are particularly precious.
Sweet baby girl was a little tougher—she just didn’t want to sleep. However, I still got some great shots out of her, as you can see below. What a doll and look at that beautiful head of hair!
I love shooting newborns, but family photography is a true joy, too. This is especially true when it’s a family like this one, where their happiness shines through. They made the most of our time together by coming prepared for a range of shots, from being outdoors together, to baby girl’s solo time. I used both color and black and white photography during this session to capture a range of feeling and light.
