The newborn period is brief and fleeting in a baby’s life: you’ve only got a few weeks when they’re so tiny, sleepy, and new. Capturing this time is my specialty and I’ve got some newborn photoshoot ideas to help you focus your thoughts around your baby photography session.
Last week, we looked at the maternity photoshoot of a beautiful mama-to-be. I gave you some ideas for creating a pregnancy photoshoot that reflects your one-of-a-kind personality and style. This week, her newborn photo session is here, and this child is just precious.
If you’re a new parent, you’ll soon learn that while every photo you take of your little one is adorable. However, it’s harder than it looks to get truly wonderful shots on your own. (Be sure to check out my Baby Photography Tips for the Best Shots of Your Little One.) So you’ll want to put some thought into your baby photography session regarding the kind of looks you want because this is a rare opportunity. Be thinking of any special props you might want to include. However, I strongly caution clients not to use more than one or two items because props can take focus away from what should be the center of attention: your little one.
I usually provide 80-100 final photos to families after their newborn photo session, and they’re all keepers. You’ll find close-ups of their face and features. In addition, varied angles, black-and-white and color images, and poses on different textures including soft blankets and wraps. Many are nude because nothing is cuter than a naked little baby. A simple diaper cover or crocheted hat also makes for a pleasing look. Check out the photos below to get an idea of what I mean.
I encourage moms and dads to consider being in some of the photos, too. As you can see from the last photos below, this new mom is delighted with her baby and it shows. Capturing the love and emotion of this new relationship is a joy for me.
If you’re expecting a baby this winter or spring, now is the time to book with Miette Photography for your little squish. Contact me today to discuss newborn photoshoot ideas, and how you can plan for your baby’s photography session. I look forward to working with you.
