When a new baby arrives earth side, it’s cause for great celebration. Today, I’m sharing family and newborn photos from a session where everybody got to show their excitement for the newest member of the group.
Two years ago, I took pictures of this beautiful family in a fun, colorful outdoor photo session. The girls have grown so much since then, but you can still see the connection and happiness they have together in the photos below.
Now they’re welcoming a new baby sister, and mom and dad decided to make our newborn photography session a family affair. After all, this little girl is joining a household with lots of joy and love, so why not include everyone? I love that decision, and the photos we captured.
Including older siblings offers lots of advantages. It gives a more complete view of the family as a whole, with the personality of each person captured in that moment. It also helps older siblings feel important and valued. They know they are a meaningful part of the new baby’s life and of the family unit. It also affords parents the chance to get some photos of themselves. This happens less as a family grows since mom and dad are often the ones behind the camera.
We captured several sets of photos for this session. First, the two older girls together. They have a fun, friendly relationship with lots of laughter and silliness. Love that. Then we took photos of the girls with their new baby sister—their affection and love was so apparent. Next, we got a family photo with mom and dad included, something they’ll treasure as the years go by and the kiddos grow up. Finally, we had our newborn photo session. This little squish was a sleeping beauty for most of the session (true of most newborns). I snapped lots of precious pictures of her snoozing in different poses with varied backgrounds.
