How time flies! Last week, I published a post looking at the six month baby photos of one seriously adorable little girl. This week, the one year baby photos of the same girl. She’s still got those killer curls and big, brown eyes. What a cutie.

Children are such a delight at this age — laughing, curious, mobile, and with a big personality. It really shines through in the photos. Look at last week’s post and you can see a huge difference. That big difference can make capturing great images more of a challenge than when they’re newborn or six months old. One year olds are so busy! But I’ve been doing this for almost 20 years and I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve.

One thing that helps is when mom and dad get involved in the one year baby photos. This helps focus the child and also creates wonderful pics of the interaction between baby, mama, and daddy. Some parents are hesitant to get involved, but I strongly encourage it. We often get so focused on our children that we forget to get photos of ourselves with our children. That’s the kind of photo you’ll look back on and be so glad you had taken. I speak from experience — I’ve got two kids and we all love looking back on photos of us together.

Another thing that helps focus baby for a photo shoot is giving her a little something to play with. I’m not much of one for props in my photos. They can clutter up the look and take the focus away from where it should be. Which is on your child! But a rubber ducky or favorite book can help a baby this age stay still long enough for me to snap some keepers.
