February is more than half over, so it’s time to start thinking about outdoor family photos for spring. The season starts in just 14 days on March 1, if you can believe it.

But ready or not, spring blossoms and green are coming soon, and how beautiful they will be. This is one of the most popular times of year for professional photos, so I thought today I’d feature some outdoor family photography in Dallas at a local park on the blog. In Dallas, one of the benefits of heading outdoors in March or April is you have a good chance of beating the searing heat that is sure to come with summer. Of course, spring means you’ll have to watch out for showers, so there’s that to consider, but if you can catch a good forecast, outdoor family photos for spring really are the way to go.

I’ve been photographing this family for several years, and their little boy has become a teenager. It can generally be difficult to get a teen boy to smile, but having the family pet with him helps. So we did just that, including their fluffy four-legged pal in the pics. I’m always fond of including a dog in the pictures because this is a precious member of the family who brings out a joyous side of almost everyone (except perhaps the grumpiest of toddlers).

I shoot a lot of black and white in my private studio, but when I go outdoors with clients, especially in the spring, I tend to shoot more color images. This makes our pre-shoot consultation all the more important as we can discuss the outfits you want everyone wearing and how they can work together. I’ve got lots of ideas (and experience) in making that happen flawlessly.
