I get so many questions about what to bring to your session. Especially with a newborn session. You never really know how much to bring, but over the years I have developed a few tips and tricks. So, here are my Top 5 things that all you mamas need to bring to their Newborn Session.

      1- Pacifier

This one is pretty obvious, but sometimes Mamas show up and they don’t have one. If your baby is easily comforted by a paci, as most babies are, BRING IT. Some babies sleep a lot during these sessions but some do not. The key with newborn sessions is to photograph them while they are sleeping so we will need to use whatever tools we can to make that happen. You can also grab a pretty one off of Amazon and it could be easily used in shots. If you don’t want to train your baby to use one, don’t worry, using it for a few minutes at a time for one day will not make them dependent – especially when they are this young.

      2- Burp Cloth

Another obvious one, but babies are messy. Just bring one, or maybe a few.

3- Diapers

Not just diapers… So. Many. Extra. Diapers. We have to wake-up your baby quite a few times. During the session, we will get them comfortable in a certain setup for the shot, wake them up and move them, then do it all over again. And sometimes they react with lots of pooping or peeing. Just bring more than you think you’ll need, then bring more on top of that.

4- Wipes

Again, So. Many. Extra. Wipes. Anyone who has spent time around babies knows that blow-outs happen, and they can be messy, to say the least. They are also handy for so many other things- grab a pack and throw them in your bag.

5- Lovey/ Sentimental Piece tips and tricks for newborn session

This is one that many clients forget, but I think it is a good one. Obviously, newborns don’t have a sentimental attachment to anything, but you have an idea of what you want to be remembered. Whether it’s your old teddy bear you’re passing down or a quilt made by Grandma, we can incorporate it into the session and sessions moving forward. It is really cool to look back on these images and see that item with them from the very beginning, especially if your kids decide to pass it down to their kids.
