For a lot of people, a dog is part of the family, too. When that’s the case, what better way to celebrate that love than to include your dog in a family photography session?

That’s exactly what today’s family did with their sweet Weimaraner. He was such a good boy during our family photography shoot. They are elegant, beautiful creatures that make great pets for families with kids. I think they almost look regal with their silvery coat and athletic appearance.

Mom, dad, and their nine-month-old son arrived at my Dallas studio for a session with doggie in tow. We took plenty of all four of them together. We also took smaller groupings, like mom and baby, dad and baby, and doggie and baby. The photos of the little boy and his dog are especially adorable, I think. It captures that classic relationship between child and his best friend.

Not all pets make for good photo companions, though. Your dog should be well-behaved and calm enough for a long session. Not all animals are able to be that patient. I recommend a dog that has been through obedience training and is beyond the puppy wildness/goofiness that’s natural in a young dog. This Weimaraner fit that description perfectly and he happily hung out in my studio while we took smaller group shots of the humans at this event. Very good boy.
