We’re up to our ears in newborn shoots, and we never get tired of those squishy cheeks and sleepy eyes. And many parents take advantage of our baby book—also known as the First Year Album. It’s a way for a DFW newborn photographer to capture a baby’s development in the beginning months of their life.

We just met this six-month-old little one, and we’re gushing over how cute she is. Look at those blue eyes and happy feet!

Here are a few reasons why a photo album of your baby’s first year of life is a worthwhile investment for you and your family.

Babies Grow and Change Quickly

Did you know that a new baby can double their birth weight in five months and triple it in a year? That’s a lot of growth in a short amount of time! Plus, their hair grows, their eyes may change color, and they get taller and more mobile.

Not to mention their developing personality. The changes we see between day one and six or twelve months later are astounding. As a new parent, you’ve probably discovered this yourself. You might find yourself grasping to remember how your baby behaved at month three, six, or nine. Every day is a new step in this first year of life. A baby book helps capture the major stages.

Display Consistent Photography

Another benefit of having multiple photo shoots with a DFW newborn photographer during your newborn’s first year is having consistent photography. If you plan to print and display these photos in a first year album or collage wall, you’ll want consistent and high quality images.

Jayme uses a similar style with all the newborns she meets, making tweaks here and there to match the baby’s personality and show off their growth. But by keeping the lighting, fabrics, and color tones the same, an array of photos taken over time will still look compatible when displayed side-by-side.

And as much as we love the accessibility of smart phone photos, it’s not the same as a professional photo. You probably have hundreds of candids of your newborn on your phone—as you should! But professional photos are timeless and worth the investment. Our style never goes out of style.

Take a Minimalist Approach

Finally, we’ve shared about the importance of using fewer props and more simplicity in a newborn shoot. These photos are about the baby, not the photographer’s ability to photograph a barn or fairy forest scene.

Our cozy blankets and simple backdrops allow your baby to stand out. The photos help you pay attention to the details—a yawn, little fingernails, body movement. And you’ll be able to remember each tiny moment of your baby’s first year with a baby book.
