Are you scheduling or prepping for newborn photography in Dallas? Look no further. Here’s everything you need to know to be prepared!

1. Plan Ahead for Newborn Photography in Dallas

If there’s one thing to know about the photography industry in DFW–it’s that bookings fill up fast! We’ve been blessed to work with many families and newborns over the years. And we’d love to get you on the schedule, as long as there’s time to plan ahead. Jayme is usually booked up about 6 weeks in advance, so if you are having your baby in August you need to act fast! Click here to book now.

Jayme recommends booking your newborn session while you are pregnant in the third trimester. When your new baby comes into the world they take over your life in the best way, but you will be tired and the last thing you want to try to do is deal with booking a newborn session at the last minute. But by contacting us several months in advance, we can schedule just the right day for you so that when the time comes, all you have to do is show up.

And don’t forget about the pre-shoot consultation. This gives us an opportunity to meet in advance and discuss the expectations, shoot style, and environment. It’s a time to put you at ease and help you prepare for the actual Dallas newborn photography day.

2. Bring the Essentials

There are six things you should bring to your newborn session:

  1. Diapers and wipes. Babies can poop several times during a session, and it’s good to be prepared.
  2. Pacifier. This will help soothe your newborn as Jayme gently interrupts their nap time.
  3. Feeding supplies. If you use formula, bring more than you think you’ll need. And for breastfeeding moms, bring your boppy pillow, burp cloths, and a nursing cover if you’re shy about nursing.
  4. Extra clothes for parents. In case someone gets pooped or peed on while you’re holding a naked baby, it’s best to have backup clothing.
  5. Water and snacks for mom.
Snacks for mom. Nursing can make mothers thirsty and burns a lot of calories so you definitely want to stay hydrated and fed. Jayme will have plenty of water (and chocolate!) in the studio but if you skipped a meal in order to rush out the door, just add some snacks to your diaper bag.
  6. Entertainment or rest time. A session usually lasts three to four hours, and we spend a lot of time one-on-one with the baby. So parents often bring books, an iPad, or even take a nap during that free time!

3. Turn on Sleep Mode

To prevent fussiness and to encourage that sweet, sleepy face, we want newborns to snooze for the entire session. Most of this is accomplished by nursing or bottle feeding and is promoted by the comfortable, calm environment that the Miette studio provides. Jayme has soothed literally hundreds of babies to sleep in the last 20 years and she has become quite good at it. But just know that you may feed baby a bit more during the session than you normally do, so come prepared.

Sometimes we catch a photo with babies’ eyes open, but they might be crossed or making a silly face. Jayme has soothed hundreds of babies to sleep, and with your help, your newborn can get some rest–and adorable photos–during the session.
