Happy Thanksgiving to you all. As you prepare for your family feast tomorrow, I thought I’d share with you some cute baby photoshoot tips. If you’re expecting a wee one this winter or spring, take note. Now is the time to book your newborn photography session and these can help you plan.

When your newborn comes into this world, she’s tiny, adorable, and a lot of work. Most parents wait at least a week or so before coming into the studio for their newborn photography session. It takes that long just to get your bearings and recover from the birth.

One reason to plan ahead is so we have time to talk or meet beforehand and discuss your hopes and expectations. We can talk about what you hope to see in your newborn photos, and I can tell you about my process. I will deliver 70-100 photos from each session, and all are keepers. You should expect that from any professional baby photographer.

I don’t use a lot of baby photography props because I want your little one to be the focus of the pictures, not extraneous stuff (no matter how cute). Just a few cozy blankets, maybe a little hat or headband. This also gives your baby photos a classic, timeless look that won’t look dated in the future.

I like to shoot a variety of poses from multiple angles, close-ups and full-body shots. You want to see the details of your sweet baby, as well as photos that show off how small he is. I love including other family members with baby, as well, to show the love between them. Those are destined to become beloved family heirlooms.
