Dallas has several visually interesting areas, and Deep Ellum is one of my favorites. The graphic wall murals, building art, and unique architecture make Deep Ellum a great backdrop for photography. Austin often gets a lot of attention for being the cool Texas city, but Dallas has so much more than people give it credit for. I think one look at these Deep Ellum boys can show that. It especially lends itself to working with child and family photography since kids love to interact with the art itself, as seen in this set. Deep Ellum’s cool vibe in particular, is perfect for older kids who like the “cool” location combined with colorful artwork.

These brothers were hysterical. They loved play fighting with one another but were also very sweet. I think you can see this in the photos – they easily switched between silly interactions and more serious and traditional looks. Mom was worried that they were being too crazy during the shoot (as many moms do), and that I’d have nothing to work with. But I got a whole range of emotions, poses, looks, and backgrounds. Kids I work with are never as bad as their parents fear they are.

Well, maybe once.

And they were mine.
