In the world of Pinterest, it is so easy to see other people’s photoshoots and ideas. Every creative, DIY, prop-filled photo session is right at our fingertips. You can recreate them, modify them or be inspired to create something new. The danger is, you can get sucked into a theme and an image that won’t age well.

Don’t be Josie!

It is trend vs timeless and trying to find the balance. Kind of like that haircut you HAD to have in middle school, that only the girl from “Josie and the Pussycat’s” or Rachel from “Friends” can pull off. You went for it, liked it and now, looking back say, “what was I thinking?” My goal is to do everything I can for you to avoid that feeling.

The Over the Top Newborn Session

When doing shoots, especially newborn, you want to have those classic “girly” or “little boy” pieces that scream personality. But you also want to have amazing images that you love. Some ways to do that are keeping the setting simple. Muted palettes don’t mean you can’t have color. Soft pinks, blues and even gray add dimension to the photos. Even bright colors can be done in a timeless way. There are so many ways to morph your ideas into a classic, timeless image. And if you do see a prop that you just can not resist, of course, we can use it.  A little tiara never hurt a princess. But for the most part, I try to buck the trend of over-the-top window dressing in favor of simplicity. I usually do a limited number of shots with props and accessories and spend the majority of the session just concentrating on the perfection of your baby.

It is finding the balance of “baby fever” and letting your baby shine. Your baby is the focus of your newborn shoot, not the frills.
