Setting up a photo session is just half the battle. There are so many things to think about past time and date. Location is one of, if not the, biggest decision. The options are endless at any location, as long as it is the vibe you want. The main 3 places being home, in-studio or outside/ on-location.

Home

One of the most overlooked places to have a photo session, but one of my favorites is at the client’s home. I touched on this a little bit in my last blog. If you are doing a family session with your kids, newborn, one-year, maternity or anything else –  home is a good spot. The benefits are endless. All moms know that sometimes your kids shut down in unnatural or unfamiliar environments, especially with people they don’t know. They are either a ham or not. Either way they go, being at home is such a comforting feeling. Not only is everyone at ease, but your personality runs deep in your living space. So that really amps up the personality of the shoot. Not only in the kids but in the background.

Studio

The studio is my home. The studio is the classic family photo spot. Classic is classic for a reason. Since the studio is a very controlled environment it provides really great shots – especially if you are doing multiple shoots that you want to be cohesive. For example, if you want your maternity shoot to match your newborn shoot – the same photographer,  the same studio would be ideal. It also provides a really safe environment for kids and newborns. With newborns I do everything I can to make sure the climate is perfect, so even in their little naked poses, they are warm and comfortable.

Outside/ On-Location

A super fun option – outdoors. We are lucky that in the DFW area there are so many amazing places to shoot. Whether you want to take the Urban approach, and shoot down in Deep Ellum, or go natural and hit up one of the many parks in the area – you can pick! The settings add so much to each shoot and can help reflect the vibe and style of your family. With older kids especially, it is a little more comfortable for them to be outside than to be in a studio. It is just a more natural setting for them. If they want to run around while we are getting other shots, they can. Or if you want shots of them running around, we can make that happen. There are so many cool things you can do, that aren’t possible in a studio.
