When you live near a beautiful, natural place, it makes sense to go there for outdoor family photos.

Today, I’m sharing a family photography session near White Rock Lake in East Dallas. I love the entire area! Wide-open spaces, arching shade trees, lots of wildlife, the lake itself. And so many people having fun biking, walking, running, and picnicking. It’s a friendly atmosphere. This family chose to go to White Rock Lake because they live nearby and wanted to include their dogs in the pictures. The pups love to go to the lake and run around. Plus, there’s a dog park nearby, so they’re quite familiar with everything in the area. Baby boy was nine months old and mom and dad wanted something different from the usual studio photos to commemorate this milestone.

We started with some outdoor family photos in front of the lake itself and on nearby hills and fields. Mom and dad wanted something a little unique, too, so we headed over to the historic Filter Building on the south side of White Rock. In the urban industrial style of the 1920s, the Filter Building features exposed red brick walls, original iron trusses, and a slightly industrial look. It created a visually appealing, unusual backdrop for this sweet family of three.

Because this photo session took place in the fall of last year, we also got some lovely family pics in front of fiery red trees. We even headed back to their East Dallas home for some photos by the large Christmas tree. Perfect for holiday cards and giving as gifts to friends and family.
